Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente explains his selection choices for Euro qualifiers

As reported by Marca, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente selected his squad to play Cyprus and Georgia in the upcoming European Championship qualifying matches, in which there were some surprising call-ups and some notable absences.

When asked about some of his choices, the Spain manager responded, “Laporte (Aymeric) has a problem with the sole of his foot. With Balde (Alejandro) and others, it encourages them to keep on fighting.”

In regard to those who were called up, De la Fuente said, “Grimaldo (Alejandro) can play in many positions, I managed him in the under-19s. I know Riquelme very well. He is growing and is important for Atletico Madrid. Aleix Garcia is a leader for Girona. He’s doing a great job and has matured a lot.”

De la Fuente highlighted that he chose not to call up Pedri due to his recent return from injury. However, a notable absence was Real Betis player Isco, who has once again found his form at the Sevilla-based club. When questioned about the playmaker not being called up, his response was simple, “I have more players than I can select.”
