Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this week caused a fresh stir across the Spanish football landscape. This comes owing to a round of comments regarding the appointment of referees.
The subject of officiating has of course dominated the chatter in Madrid once more over the last couple of days. This comes after Los Blancos saw attacking star Vinícius Jr. shown a straight red card en route to victory over Villarreal.
So angered was the aforementioned Mourinho by the overall standard of officating across the 90 minutes, that he refused to even hold a post-match press conference.
And as alluded to above, after grabbing the headlines courtesy of his comments in the aftermath of the Madrid Derby prior to the international break, the Portuguese has on Tuesday turned heads once more.
During an exchange with the media ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League showdown with AS Roma on Wednesday, Mourinho explained:
“There’s something that smells strange to me. Usually the referee’s name is known 24 hours before the game in La Liga… So, why, for us, do we always hear the name three weeks before?”
