“Something has changed” – Frenkie de Jong tipped to seek out summer Barcelona exit

A surprise update on the future of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has this evening come to the fore online.

The info comes courtesy of Lluís Canut, a friend of both De Jong’s entourage, and former Barca head coach Ronald Koeman.

Speaking during an interview with Catalaunya Ràdio, Canut was asked for the latest word on the plans of the Dutchman beyond the summer.

De Jong, for his part, has seen his name cast back into the spotlight in Spain over recent days, amid suggestions that he could be sacrificed by the Blaugrana brass, to raise funds for fresh blood with a view to next season.

The former Ajax man, in the past, has always done his utmost to shut down any and all speculation surrounding his name, adamant that his sole intention is to succeed long-term at the Camp Nou.

But, if Canut’s comments on Thursday are anything to go by, something, now, appears to have ‘changed’.

Owing potentially to the imminent departure of boss Xavi, or the incessant chatter regarding his future, De Jong is understood to have opened to the prospect of a new challenge:

“Something has changed in Frenkie de Jong. Frenkie is no longer closing the door on leaving the club.”
