Sevilla set to sign Brazilian defender Marcao

Sevilla are inching closer to sealing the signing of Brazilian defender Marcao, according to AS.

The latest report states that negotiations between Sevilla and Galatasaray are at a very advanced stage. The fee is set to be agreed at €8 million, with a further €2 million dependent on variables.

Marcao would be a necessary addition at the heart of Sevilla’s defence, following the sale of compatriot Diego Carlos to Aston Villa for £26 million. The Andalusian club have beaten AS Roma and Newcastle United to the Brazilian’s signature.

The 26-year-old left-footed Brazilian centre-back has notched up over 100 league appearances for Galatasaray since joining them in 2019. He played in 38 games across all competitions last season, scoring once but picking up 13 yellow cards.

With rumours surrounding a transfer for Jules Koundé to Barcelona or Chelsea looming large, Sevilla may well be in the market in search of another central defender.
