Sevilla defender Jesús Navas returns from injury

Jesús Navas returned to the Sevilla side who beat Mallorca 2-0 on Saturday. Having the club captain back to provide experience at right-back will undoubtedly help, particularly after Gonzalo Montiel in the same position hasn’t been at his best, as shown in the first two goals conceded last Sunday against Barcelona.

Jorge Sampaoli said that Navas only had two training sessions before the match against Mallorca and he was replaced in the 59th minute of Saturday’s match.

Alex Telles has been another big name returning to the team. On loan from Manchester United, the Brazilian left-back is recovering from a knee injury faster than expected. Similarly, though, Sampaoli stated he can’t be counting on Telles in the short term.

More positively, Lucas Ocampos, Joan Jordán, and Marcos Acuña all came on to help Sevilla over the line on Saturday after each took time off with minor injuries.

It’s not all good news for Sevilla unfortunately, as Karim Rekik will be out for an indefinite amount of time due to tendinosis in his right Achilles. Papu Gómez’s ankle injury hasn’t improved as expected and he will require surgery.
