Sergio Canales is set to leave Real Betis for Mexico. There is an agreement in place between the La Liga club and Monterrey FC of Mexico for €10m fixed, plus €5m in variables, according to ABC Sevilla.
The 32-year-old Betis captain arrived at the Villamarín in 2018 on a free transfer and became a fan favourite at the club, and leader of the dressing room during his time in Seville.
Canales’ own team-mates are in England for pre-season and are aware that negotiations for the transfer have advanced and that Tuesday night may have been the last night that the Cantabrian will spend with them as a Real Betis player.
Rayados’ offer to the player is believed to be worth €5m net for each of the three seasons that he would sign.
To replace Canales, Betis plan to sign Giovani Lo Celso, a player with several suitors.
