Samuel Umtiti on the verge of joining Serie A side Lecce

Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti will arrive in Lecce early next week to complete a loan move to the Serie A side, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

There will be no option to buy the French defender, who will bring a personal trainer with him to try to avoid breaking down again after a poor run of luck with injuries.

Umtiti, 28, made his debut with Lyon in January 2012, winning a Super Cup and the French Cup. In 2016 he moved to Barcelona for €25 million, with who he made 133 appearances and won 2 league titles, 2 Spanish Super Cups and 3 Copa del Rey titles.

Barça will pay the full fee and bonuses depending on how many games he plays for the Italian club.

Umtiti didn’t travel with Barça on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and since the end of last season, manager Xavi Hernández has told him to look for a new club.
