Rúben Neves to Barcelona remains an option

Rúben Neves to Barcelona is a transfer rumour that has never gone away. The Portuguese midfielder has been linked to Barça numerous times over the last couple of years, and this summer it is once again on the cards. Neves is 26 and has one year left on his deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Diario AS have reported that Wolves are looking for €30m to part ways with their star player. The midfielder has made 253 appearances for the club and scored 30 times.

The deal makes sense for Barça. Sergio Busquets is leaving and the Catalan club need to fill the gap left. Neves does not have the same traits as Busquets, and he isn’t a traditional central defensive midfielder either. His best qualities are in distributing the ball, and he has an impressive ball-striking ability. The Portuguese doesn’t possess the defensive awareness of the Barcelona legend, but he offers a different skill set. If the Blaugrana are to pursue this signing, they must also make sure to sign a defensive midfielder, or they may be left with a potential problem next season.
