Ronald Koeman: “Spain will go far in this World Cup.”

In an interview that appeared in Marca, Ronald Koeman discussed Spain’s performance at the World Cup and the work of Luis Enrique.

The former Barcelona manager believes that Spain are still favourites to with the competition despite losing to Japan Thursday:

“Spain was the team that had played the best until the last match-day. They got a great result against Costa Rica, who we know are not the best team, but it’s not easy to score seven goals against them. Against Germany they were very good. Spain’s play, their intensity and how they press, is the best I’ve seen so far.”

“Despite Thursday’s loss to Japan they are still one of the favourites. I think France and Brazil are the favourites. Then there are other teams like Spain, England, the Netherlands or Argentina who can win it. But Spain will go far in this World Cup,” he added.

Koeman also praised the work done by Luis Enrique:

“He has maintained his commitment to young players despite the criticism. He has his own style of managing a team and he has done a great job so far.”
