Ronald Araújo injury update provided after Barcelona’s shock defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk

An update on the wellbeing of Barcelona star Ronald Araújo has been provided on Tuesday evening.

This comes – for those who may have missed it – after the Uruguayan sparked concern on the back of the club’s meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Xavi Hernández’s troops marked their return to the European stage a short time ago, making the trip to the Volksparkstadion for a Champions League group stage meeting with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana were ultimately condemned to a shock defeat, owing to Danylo Sikan’s finish late in the first half.

And yet, as alluded to above, the eventual result in Hamburg proved far from Barcelona’s only concern on the night.

In addition, the Catalans were left sweating over the fitness of star defender Ronald Araújo.

Despite seeing out the full 90 minutes, Araújo was spotted in clear discomfort approaching the final whistle, sparking fears of a potential injury.

Post-match, however, such fears have been quelled.

This comes amid claims, by way of Mundo Deportivo’s Fernando Polo, among others, that the 24-year-old is simply suffering from muscular overload.

Nevertheless, medical tests will be carried out at Barca’s training centre on Wednesday.
