The agent of Manchester City star Rodri has confirmed that his client directly informed La Liga giants Real Madrid of his decision to opt for a move to Barcelona.
This of course comes fresh off a stunning twist in the tale regarding the future of Spain’s World Cup-winning captain. For weeks considered something of a sure thing to arrive at Real Madrid this summer, Rodri sent shockwaves across the football landscape in his home country on Thursday.
After Hansi Flick’s Barcelona threw their hat in the ring for his signature, the 30-year-old did not hesitate in giving his word to the Blaugrana.
As much left those in a position of power at arch rivals Real Madrid in a state of collective shock, facing up to yet another season without having properly replaced the long-departed Toni Kroos.
And as alluded to above, Rodri, for his part, is evidently well aware of the sizable nature of the blow which he has dealt José Mourinho and co. Speaking during an interview with El Larguero (as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano) on Friday, the midfielder’s agent, Pablo Barquero, admitted:
“Out of respect for Madrid, as they have been class, Rodri informed them that his decision is to join Barça.”
