Manchester City star Rodri has revealed that he was immediately contacted by Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal, after securing the Ballon d’Or on Monday.
Midfielder Rodri is for his part of course fresh off a night to remember.
For months considered an outsider to lift the 2024 ‘Golden Ball’, the Spanish international in the end beat out the competition of long-time frontrunner Vinícius Jr.
Whilst many were quick to reveal their outrage at Vinícius’ snub, others were keen only to congratulate Rodri, who this year secured both the Premier League title, and Euro 2024 glory with Spain.
And, speaking to the media in the aftermath of Monday’s ceremony in Paris, Rodri himself revealed that the first phone call he received after departing the gala came courtesy of one of Vinícius’ Real Madrid teammates.
During an exchange with Marca, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old explained:
“I talked to Carva, he deserved it too! The first call I received when I left [the gala] was from him. He’s a player with whom I’m very close, even more so now with the injury, he’s a player who shares the same values as me. He congratulated me.”
