Rodri on Nico Williams: “Nico was the difference.”

Nico Williams made his second appearance for Spain against Portugal in the Nations League.

The 20-year-old came off the bench in the 73rd minute to assist Álvaro Morata’s goal against their Iberian rivals, which was enough for Spain to progress to the Final Four of the competition.

In a post-match interview with Marca, Rodri praised the impact that Nico Williams made on the game:

“Nico was the difference. He changed the rhythm of the match with his stride and the energy he has. He provided a great assist and Álvaro was there.”

“Nico was key in his second game with the national team and I had to push him. We put a lot of effort into this match. When we have to give our best in a match like this, we give it,” added Morata.

José Luis Gayà was very impressed with the team as a whole:

“We suffered, but it was worth it. We came here to have the ball, to be the better team and we did it. We had personality. We lacked depth, but the last 35 minutes were spectacular.”
