Barcelona summer signing Rodri has thrown his full backing behind new teammate and compatriot Lamine Yamal. This comes after the 19-year-old drew another blank in front of goal on Thursday.
Barca were of course back in action yesterday evening, welcoming Athletic Club to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.
When all was said and done, Hansi Flick’s troops emerged on the right side of a 2-0 result, to keep alive a flawless start to the defence of their Spanish top-flight crown.
The aforementioned Lamine featured from the off in the fixture, and proved himself a constant source of danger down the hosts’ right flank. Despite conjuring up a number of efforts at goal, however, the young winger failed to open his account for the new term.
After looking disappointed in moments en route to Barcelona’s 5-0 opening day drubbing of Elche, Lamine, in turn, again let his frustration show at points against Athletic.
Speaking to the media post-match, the aforementioned Rodri therefore made use of the opportunity to send a message of encouragement the way of his new teammate. Drawn on Lamine’s name fresh off his debut appearance in Barca’s famed red and blue, midfielder Rodri assured:
“Lamine is incredible. He went through a period where he might have felt a bit frustrated. We tried to lift his spirits, and today we saw the best version of Lamine. The goals will come because the talent is there”.
