Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski reveals his retirement is ‘close’

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was asked about his future career plans.

“My retirement? It’s close. It’s very possible that I will finish my career in Barcelona, where my family and I feel very comfortable.”

The news may come as a surprise to many Barcelona fans, as Lewandowski is contracted to the club for another three years. The Polish striker is 34 and scored 23 league goals in the 2022-23 season, finishing as the top scorer in La Liga.

He is showing no signs of slowing down yet, and when he first joined Barça he spoke of his ambitions of winning the Ballon d’Or. He spoke of how the road to winning the Ballon d’Or was shorter at the Catalan club than it perhaps was at Bayern Munich.

The talismanic striker is one of many players to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent times, although he insists that his focus is only on Barça.
