Robert Lewandowski confirms Barcelona future amid fresh exit links

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has on Monday provided an update on his future with the club.

And the news will no doubt come as a boost to all those hopeful of seeing the Polish international stay put beyond the coming summer.

The subject of Lewandowski’s future reemerged as something of a headline talking point in Catalunya’s capital over the course of recent days.

As much came amid claims in the media that the 35-year-old’s sale was being taken into fresh consideration with a view to the summer.

As reported by the reliable Catalunya Ràdio, Lewandowski’s hefty salary, coupled with a drop in his production in front of goal this season, meant that his place in Xavi’s squad for next season was no longer secure.

This of course comes as the Barcelona brass set about cleaning up the club’s finances, in an effort to return to the 1-1 rule.

Speaking to the media on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of a potential summer transfer was put to none other than Lewandowski himself.

During an interview with BILD, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, however, the veteran frontman was unwavering in his stance that his future lies at the Camp Nou:

“Leaving Barça for me this summer is definitely not possible, it’s not a topic.

“I physically feel good. As of today, this is the case for at least 2 more years. When I’m physically no longer at a top level, I’d start thinking.”
