Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq has ruptured his ACL, the club have confirmed.
“Sadiq has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. The player will undergo surgical treatment. Further information will be provided in the coming days,” La Real said in a statement on Monday.
The striker, recently signed from Almería, is expected to miss the rest of the season with the Basque club after coming off injured in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Getafe.
La Real signed the 25-year-old from Almería on the final day of the transfer window. The La Liga outfit paid €20m plus add-ons in order to secure the services of the Nigerian striker.
He recently gave his first interview as a Real Sociedad player to the club’s official media and discussed why he decided to join the side on a deal until 2028.
“I have chosen Real because it is one of the most important teams in Spain. It is a step forward and I am very grateful that they have signed me. I am very happy. Real was the best option, I couldn’t say no.”
