Real Sociedad star Umar Sadiq ruled out as Nigeria’s AFCON woes mount

Real Sociedad have been dealt a blow on the personnel front, amid confirmation that attacker Umar Sadiq has picked up an injury whilst away on international duty.

Frontman Sadiq of course departed San Sebastián earlier this month.

This came after the 26-year-old was afforded a call-up to Nigeria’s squad for the country’s latest Africa Cup of Nations adventure.

Ahead of their tournament opener against Equatorial Guinea this weekend, however, the Super Eagles have been afforded yet another considerable blow.

This comes amid confirmation that Sadiq is set to sit out the AFCON, owing to injury.

As confirmed in a statement released by Nigeria on Friday, the Real Sociedad star has picked up a knee problem, with Paul Onuachu of Trabzonspor, in turn, called up in his place.

This marks the third significant injury in José Peseiro’s Super Eagles squad in the lead-up to African football’s most prestigious international tournament getting underway, after both Victor Boniface and Wilfred Ndidi suffered respective muscular problems, too.
