Real Sociedad dealt blow with director Olabe to depart

Fans of La Liga outfit Real Sociedad have this week received some altogether disappointing news.

This comes in the form of confirmation that beloved director Roberto Olabe has come to the decision to depart the club.

Olabe, for his part, has long been considered an absolutely integral figure behind the scenes in San Sebastian.

The Spaniard’s recruitment across his Sociedad stint has been nothing short of superb, with Olabe having been responsible for the arrivals of the likes of Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard, Takefusa Kubo, and Alexander Isak.

As confirmed on Wednesday, however, the 57-year-old has come to the conclusion that his work at Anoeta is done.

Despite his contract running through the summer of 2026, Olabe has therefore informed the Real Sociedad brass that his time with the club will be cut short at the end of the season.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘The club have announced the move while also confirming that Erik Bretos, who currently oversees the club’s recruitment and scouting, will replace him from next season.’

Olabe is expected to attract significant interest from clubs across the continent and beyond.
