Real Madrid’s centre-back curse continues as on-loan star suffers injury

The remarkable defensive crisis being endured by Spanish giants Real Madrid has this evening continued to worsen.

The subject of personnel woes, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital once more across the day to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming in the buildup to Real’s top of the table showdown with Girona that Antonio Rüdiger had been ruled out for what is expected to be a spell of around two weeks.

Joining the trio of Nacho, David Alaba and Éder Militão on the sidelines, Rüdiger’s absence means that Carlo Ancelotti has been left without a single fit senior central defender.

And yet, on Saturday evening, the situation, bizarrely, has taken another turn for the worse.

This comes by way of confirmation that a member of the Blancos’ loan army, too, today picked up an injury.

The player in question? Rafa Marín.

Afforded a start in Alavés’ La Liga meeting with Villarreal, the stopper – in the midst of a fine stretch of form – was forced to limp out of proceedings inside the quarter of an hour mark with what appeared to be a muscular concern.

It now remains to be seen whether Marín is facing up to a spell on the treatment table.
