Real Madrid’s Bernabéu request for Man City clash accepted by UEFA

*Update* – Confirmation has since arrived, courtesy of Marca, that Real’s request has been accepted.

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have on Monday forwarded a request to UEFA, regarding the conditions of their upcoming Champions League showdown with Manchester City.

Real, of course, are primed to kick the club’s European campaign back into gear on Tuesday night.

As much will come by way of a quarter-final showdown with reigning competition holders Manchester City.

With the Sky Blues having sent Carlo Ancelotti and co. packing from the Champions League just last season, all associated with Los Blancos will no doubt have revenge firmly on their minds ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

And, in their efforts towards securing precisely that, the brass in Spain’s capital, evidently, are keen to afford themselves every advantage possible.

In turn, as revealed by the reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Florentino Pérez and co. have made contact with those in a position of power at UEFA.

This comes with a view to the conditions at the Santiago Bernabéu tomorrow evening.

‘Madrid have asked UEFA if they can use the roof on the new-look Bernabeu for the first leg’, it is confirmed.

Why? ‘To make the atmosphere as raucous as possible’ for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City troops.
