An insight into the La Liga teams most heavily punished by way of VAR when it comes to disallowed goals since the technology’s introduction has today been provided.
And the statistics are no doubt set to turn heads across the Spanish football landscape.
The subject of VAR, of course, took its place front and centre in the headlines in La Liga once more on Sunday night.
This came after Real Madrid saw an early goal in their meeting with Sevilla chalked off in controversial circumstances.
Carlo Ancelotti’s troops, nevertheless, managed to get the job done in a hard-fought 1-0 victory, but the damage had been done, as those in attendance at the Santiago Bernabéu showered the VAR team in charge of proceedings with jeers and insults.
Such supporters, in turn, will no doubt be interested to hear of a head-turning statistic, highlighting just how heavily their side have indeed been punished, across the VAR era in Spain’s top-flight.
As per reliable statistician Mister Chip, Los Blancos’ disallowed goal against Sevilla marked their 27th since the introduction of the controversial technology in La Liga.
And this is a full 11 more than the next-most affected club, in the form of their opponents on Sunday.
Rounding out the top three are Atlético Madrid, with Xavi’s Barcelona, notably, all the way down in 7th, with 11 goals ruled out by VAR.
