The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid are seeking a last-minute change to the team of officials assigned to the Copa del Rey final.
That’s according to El Chiringuito TV, who have on Friday provided an insight into the situation.
One of the headline fixtures of the Spanish football calendar is of course set to play out this coming weekend.
As much will see arch rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona go toe-to-toe for silverware, in the finale of the aforementioned Copa del Rey.
The team of officials for the clash was this week decided, with Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea the man chosen to act as lead referee at La Cartuja.
Developments in the officials’ press conference on Friday, however, have since culminated in mounting concern at Real Madrid.
Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea for his part broke down during his exchange with the media this afternoon.
Amid accusations of the referee being ‘pro Barcelona’, and with pressure mounting on officials across Spain for the level of their performances, a teary De Burgos Bengoetxea admitted:
“What we’re going through isn’t fair. It’s heartbreaking when my son goes to school and has to hear stuff like his father is a thief.”
And safe to say, such comments, accompanied by a string of others on Friday, have not gone at all unnoticed in the boardroom at Real Madrid.
So much so that, according to El Chiringuito TV, Florentino Pérez and co. have gone as far as to request a new team of officials for Saturday’s Copa showcase.
Amid fears that those in charge will not be able to remain impartial, Real have contacted the RFEF, to call for a last-minute change.
