Real Madrid will take legal action against anyone who directs racist remarks towards their players.
“Real Madrid C. F. rejects all types of racist and xenophobic expressions and behaviour in football, sport and life in general, such as the regrettable and unfortunate comments made in recent hours against our player Vinícius Júnior.
“Real Madrid wishes to show all its affection and support for Vinícius Júnior, a player who understands football as an attitude towards life based on joy, respect and sportsmanship.
“Football, which is the most global sport that exists, should be an example of values and coexistence.
“The club has instructed its legal services to take legal action against anyone who makes racist remarks towards our players,” the club said in an official statement released on Friday night.
Pelé came out on Friday in defence of Vinícius against comments he considered racist, and said both will continue to fight against prejudice and defending “the right” to “be happy”.
