Real Madrid to return to Santiago Bernabéu in September

Real Madrid will return to the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday 3 September, the fourth matchday of the new La Liga season, when Carlo Ancelotti’s team will host Real Betis.

Work continues on the stadium, which will welcome fans with an increasingly similar image to what it will look like when the refurbishment is completed. The dressing rooms have been rebuilt from scratch and work is also underway to finish the new VIP area.

Madrid are set for a September return to their home ground and will therefore play their first three games of the new season away from home.

As reported by AS, Madrid will play their last match at the Bernabéu before the 2022 World Cup on 9 November, against Cádiz. In between, and in addition to Betis, they will play Mallorca, Osasuna, Barcelona (El Clásico will be on 15 or 16 October), Sevilla, Girona and the European champions’ three group stage opponents in the Champions League.

Depending on the outcome of the draw, the first match at the Bernabéu will be between 6 and 14 September.
