Real Madrid star Toni Kroos confirms return to German national team

Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has this afternoon announced his long-awaited return to international football.

The subject of midfield maestro Kroos’ plans for the future has of course long taken its place front and centre in the headlines across Europe.

As much came with the 34-year-old, until today, having been yet to announce his intentions at either club or international level beyond June.

Regarding the former, his contract terms with La Liga giants Real Madrid are due to expire upon the season’s close.

And with his country, it had long been speculated that Kroos was giving consideration to coming out of international retirement, to aid Germany’s cause at the upcoming European Championships.

In turn, it will no doubt come as music to the ears of his fellow countrymen the world over to hear that, on Thursday, the former Bayern Munich man has indeed made his choice.

As confirmed in a post on his official Instagram account, at the direct request of Die Mannschaft boss Julian Nagelsmann, Kroos has decided to rejoin the German ranks.

He is first expected to feature in the upcoming round of March friendlies, before then playing a starring role from his engine room berth as Germany go in search of European glory in their home country this summer:

‘People, short and painless: I will play for Germany again in March. Why? Because I was asked by the federal coach, I’m in the mood and I’m sure that with the team at the European Championship, much more is possible than most believe right now!’
