Real Madrid star to be handed first Euro 2024 start in quarter-finals

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is expected to step into a starting berth for his country, in their upcoming Euro 2024 quarter-final fixture.

That’s according to French outlet L’Équipe, who point towards Eduardo Camavinga as the player in question.

Youngster Camavinga, for his part, has endured something of an underwhelming Euros campaign to date.

Sitting behind the likes of N’Golo Kanté, Adrien Rabiot and Real Madrid teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni in the engine room pecking order in Didier Deschamps’ squad, the 21-year-old has been restricted to just 48 minutes of action.

As alluded to above, though, if word stemming from the media on Wednesday is anything to go by, Camavinga’s prominence looks set for an imminent move in the right direction.

As per L’Équipe, the former Stade Rennais talent is in line to feature from the off in France’s upcoming quarter-final showdown with Portugal.

Les Bleus find themselves a man short in the middle of the park, after the aforementioned Rabiot picked up a suspension against Belgium last time out.

And the latest word emerging from the French camp suggests that:

‘Eduardo Camavinga is the favourite to replace Adrien Rabiot in the same system for Portugal-France.’
