Real Madrid star to be dropped to bench for Atlético clash

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is expected to be left out of the club’s latest starting XI.

That’s according to Blancos insider Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE, who points towards Eduardo Camavinga as the player in question.

Camavinga, for his part, featured from the off last week, as Real Madrid secured a crucial first-leg advantage in their Champions League Last-16 tie with city rivals Atlético.

Reports over recent days, in turn, pointed towards the Frenchman as a likely starter once more later this evening, when the reigning European champions make the trip to the Metropolitano for the return leg.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media this afternoon is anything to go by, then this, in fact, will not be the case.

As per the aforementioned Miguel Ángel Díaz, Carlo Ancelotti’s plan is to afford a starting berth to Luka Modrić in the derby.

As much would come at the expense of Camavinga, making for a Real Madrid midfield three of Modrić, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Jude Bellingham.
