Real Madrid star the target of fresh referee criticism: ‘Not good for the sport’

Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has early this week seen his recent behaviour on the pitch called into question once more.

Wide-man Vinícius, for his part, has been at the centre of something of a storm in the Spanish media over the course of recent days.

As much comes owing to his behaviour in Real Madrid’s La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano.

En route to a 3-3 draw at Vallecas on Saturday, Vinícius was introduced off the bench during the 2nd-half.

And many have since made clear their opinions that, at one point or another, the Brazilian should have been given his marching orders from the clash.

Vinícius was seen repeatedly complaining to the referee and his team of officials, on more than one occasion in an overly aggressive manner.

His protests ultimately earned the 24-year-old a yellow card, but by the rules of the game, he was frankly lucky not to see red.

And one individual who has in turn added his name to the list of Vinícius’ many critics, comes in the form of Mateu Lahoz.

Speaking to ‘El Día Después’ on Movistar +, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, former referee Lahoz admitted that, whilst Real Madrid’s star man may have had just reason for his frustration on Saturday, his behaviour was nevertheless unacceptable:

“Vinicius’ situation needs to be looked at. This is not good for the sport.”
