Real Madrid star set to be named winner of ‘The Best’ award

A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is all set to be named as the winner of FIFA’s ‘The Best’ player prize.

That’s according to Brazilian outlet Globo, who point towards Vinícius Jr. as the impending winner in question.

Wide-man Vinícius of course took his place at the centre of a media frenzy a couple of months back, upon the 24-year-old being snubbed for the Ballon d’Or.

Despite long-standing claims that Viní was the runaway favouite to scoop the accolade, he was ultimately beaten to as much by Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

So furious were those behind the scenes at Real Madrid, that they in turn made the decision to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony as a whole.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds in the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then no such snub will be coming the way of Vinícius this time round…

As per a report from Globo:

‘Vinicius Júnior will be named the best player in the world at the FIFA The Best awards ceremony, which will take place this Tuesday in Doha, Qatar.’
