Real Madrid star picked up an injury vs Atlético

La Liga giants Real Madrid saw their derby day defeat at the hands of Atlético compounded by a setback on the personnel front. This comes amid confirmation that Federico Valverde is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Midfielder Valverde for his part featured from the off on Sunday, as Real Madrid made the short trip across Spain’s capital for the season’s first Madrid Derby.

When all was said and done on an evening to forget for the visitors, they were condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result, dropping to 3rd in the La Liga standings as a result.

As alluded to above, though, the eventual outcome was far from the only source of concern for Los Blancos at the Metropolitano.

As per a report from journalist Guillermo Rai of The Athletic:

‘Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde is expected to be sidelined for 2–3 weeks with a left ankle injury following Kang-In Lee’s tackle in the derby. Staff sources do not anticipate Valverde joining up with Uruguay for the upcoming international break.’
