The relationship between La Liga match officials and Real Madrid is a very tenuous one as of late. There has been plenty of talk in recent days and weeks surrounding a number of controversial calls in recent fixtures.
With a second leg Champions League tie against Manchester City on the horizon tomorrow evening, Real Madrid and their stars are understandably putting all their focus into this match and paying little regard to the ongoing issue of refereeing.
This explains why, when talking to the press this afternoon, as per ElDesmarque, Federico Valverde didn’t give so much as a mention to the ongoing refereeing controversy.
However in a strange turn of events, the Uruguyan star then took to social media to share a statement on the ongoing debate, letting his fans know that their concerns have not gone unnoticed.
“I do not want anyone to misunderstand me, but above all I want to make it clear to our fans; if today I do not talk about the refereeing situation we are suffering from it is because I KNOW ME, and I must focus on tomorrow.“
He then continued by saying, “Everybody has seen what is happening to us in this league, and I haven’t forgotten it, but now we must focus on tomorrow, and I will be at 100% as I have always been.“
It is very unusual to see a footballer come out with a statement like this on social media, and it will be very interesting to see if there will be any repercussions for Valverde as a result.
