Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé did not hold back in his criticism of the French national team, following their exit from the World Cup on Tuesday.
This of course comes fresh off a night to forget for all associated with Les Bleus.
Didier Deschamps’ troops marked their return to action yesterday evening, locking horns with European rivals Spain with a place in the finale of the World Cup on the line.
France entered the fixture as favourites in the eyes of many, considered the in-form team of the summer to date.
When all was said and done, however, the 2018 world champions were taught something of a footballing lesson. Dominated in every aspect of the game, the French were ultimately put to the sword by two goals to nil.
The aforementioned Kylian Mbappé featured from the off in Dallas, but, like his teammates, struggled to make any kind of positive impact on proceedings.
Speaking to the media post-match, the 27-year-old was therefore quick to make his frustration very much known:
“We made too many technical mistakes. It wasn’t up to the standard of a World Cup semi-final. We didn’t activate the game plan. When you don’t do what you’re supposed to do in a World Cup semi-final… you don’t win.
“Right from the start, we were pressing three against two… and we messed up there. Against Spain, you have to press man for man.”
