The coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid are giving consideration to making use of the talents of Raúl Asencio in a new role this week.
That’s according to Blancos insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic.
Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action on Wednesday night.
Fresh off a 4-1 drubbing of Las Palmas at the weekend, the reigning Spanish champions will turn attentions back towards matters on the continent, in a Champions League showdown with RB Salzburg.
Carlo Ancelotti and co. will be forced to make do without a number of key performers for the clash, with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Éder Militão and Dani Carvajal ruled out, and Aurélien Tchouaméni a major doubt.
Lucas Vázquez, meanwhile, will play no part owing to suspension.
And it is the latter’s impending absence which has left the Real Madrid coaching staff with a major decision to make.
With Vázquez representing Los Merengues’ only fit right-back at present, another member of Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks will therefore be forced to fill in in an unnatural role on Wednesday.
Federico Valverde is one such option, but, as per the aforementioned Mario Cortegana, so too is youngster Raúl Asencio.
’21-year-old centre-back Raúl Asencio only made his Madrid debut in late November but could get the nod at right-back,’ it is confirmed.
