Real Madrid ‘pursuing’ deal for free agent defender

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid remain interested in the signing of Liverpool star Ibrahima Konaté.

This of course comes fresh off news of major developments in the future of the France international being announced on Friday.

After months of negotiations over an extension to his expiring contract terms at Anfield, an agreement could not be found between the parties.

Konaté is therefore set to depart Liverpool on a free transfer over the weeks ahead.

And as alluded to above, amongst the stopper’s suitors, amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at the back, are Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were hotly tipped as a potential destination for Konaté earlier this season, only for links to die down amid the understanding that the 27-year-old was likely to stay put on Merseyside.

If the latest word stemming from France on Friday is anything to go by, though, then Florentino Pérez and co. appear ready to reignite their pursuit.

As per a report from L’Équipe:

‘Coming off a very disappointing season, the Spanish club have acknowledged the need to strengthen their defence. Konaté is a target they are pursuing.’
