Real Madrid open talks over signing of Arsenal star

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have kicked into gear active efforts to bring Arsenal star William Saliba to the club.

That’s according to French outlet L’Équipe, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

The name of stopper Saliba has of course long proven a prominent one in the media chatter surrounding Real Madrid.

This comes with the France international, amid an ongoing search for central defensive reinforcements on the part of Los Blancos, having been earmarked as a leading target.

A deal for Saliba actually coming to fruition has throughout the saga been labelled as unlikely, owing to the massive price-tag attached to his name by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from France is anything to go by, then the reigning Spanish champions are yet to be deterred.

As per a report from L’Équipe, in fact, Real Madrid want Saliba to be the ‘leader’ of a new-look defence for next season.

Contacts, in turn, have been kickstarted with the entourage of the 24-year-old, with a view to a transfer either this summer, or next.

Not only that, but Saliba himself is understood to have named Real as the only club whom he would be willing to depart Arsenal for.
