Real Madrid ‘monitoring’ Borussia Dortmund star as Leny Yoro alternative

The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on a member of the defensive ranks at Borussia Dortmund, as a potential future reinforcement.

This comes fresh off the bench of Los Blancos missing out on their no.1 defensive target for present and future alike.

After seeing Lille sensation Leny Yoro slip through their fingers to make the move to England with Manchester United, the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu have been left with little choice but to seek out alternative options.

As things stand, Florentino Pérez and co. are actually giving consideration to simply not signing a new central defender this summer, making do with the current crop of options at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti.

But the Spanish champions are nevertheless doing their due diligence, in the case of an opportunity presenting itself.

And one such option to have come to the fore amid Real’s scan of the European landscape comes in the form of Nico Schlotterbeck.

Stopper Schlotterbeck is fresh off a superb campaign on the books of Borussia Dortmund, the side whom Los Blancos put to the sword in the finale of the Champions League.

And, according to Javier Rodríguez Pascual of Relevo, his exploits did not go at all unnoticed at the Bernabéu.

Speaking during an appearance on Iñaki Angulo TV on Thursday, Rodríguez Pascual confirmed that Real Madrid are ‘monitoring’ the situation of the German international at Signal Iduna Park.

As much comes with Schlotterbeck having thoroughly impressed Blancos chief scout Juni Calafat and his team during a recent scouting mission.

Though an offer for his services is in no way considered as imminent, the situation is one to keep an eye on across the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window.
