Former Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has provided his take on the news of current Blancos star Vinícius Jr. being set to miss out on the Ballon d’Or.
The subject of the ‘Golden Ball’ has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across world football over the course of the day to date.
This comes after the bombshell revelation was forthcoming that the aforementioned Vinícius – the long-time favourite for the award – has been snubbed.
Instead, the understanding is that Manchester City midfielder Rodri will tonight be named the game’s very best player for 2024.
News of Vinícius’ last-minute blow has since sparked widespread chatter across the world of football, amid the general consensus that the Brazilian has been somewhat hard done by by France Football.
Speaking during a media appearance of his own on Monday evening, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his ex-teammate’s high-profile snub was put to the aforementioned Toni Kroos.
And, in his response, midfield icon Kroos went on to play down the importance of the Ballon d’Or, explaining:
”Rodri will win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve never seen the importance of these individual awards in football, they have no place.”
