Real Madrid legend slams ‘cowardly’ England for display vs Argentina

Former Real Madrid and Spain star Iker Casillas took aim at the English national team in ruthless fashion on Wednesday night. This came owing to the nature of the Three Lions’ exit from the World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s troops were of course back in action yesterday evening, locking horns with reigning world champions Argentina with a place in the World Cup final on the line.

England took the lead in proceedings early in the 2nd-half, courtesy of an Anthony Gordon finish from close range.

Argentina, however, dogged and determined, refused to accept defeat, battling their way back level before notching a decisive winner through Lautaro Martínez late on.

The Albiceleste were essentially welcomed back into the clash by the tactical approach employed by the English, who opted to sit deep and welcome pressure onto themselves.

And as alluded to above, one individual of the opinion that as much is nothing short of unforgivable is Iker Casillas.

In a pair of posts on his official social media accounts late on Wednesday, ex-Real Madrid shot-stopper and World Cup winner Casillas wrote:

‘England score the goal and then sit back. Cowardly approach. They haven’t left their own box and have allowed Argentina to come forward more. The logical outcome happens.

‘England have lost the match all by themselves with their approach. They let Argentina do whatever they wanted the whole time for 30 minutes. This can’t be.’
