Real Madrid crisis mounts as defender stretchered off with potentially serious knee injury

The injury situation at La Liga champions Real Madrid has on Saturday taken another turn for the worse.

This comes after a key member of the club’s defensive ranks was stretchered out of their meeting with Osasuna, amid fears of a serious knee injury.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops are currently locked in La Liga action, at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Amid efforts to secure a return to winning ways after a pair of successive defeats across all competitions, however, things have not gone exactly according to plan for Real Madrid.

Though Los Blancos have taken the lead courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance on the part of Vinícius Jr (Jude Bellingham has since made it two), they have also seen two important players pick up injuries.

The first was Rodrygo, who limped out of the action with an issue in his right leg.

Altogether more concerning, though, was the exit of fellow countryman Éder Militão.

After catching his right foot in the Bernabéu turf, defender Militão went to ground screaming in pain, in scenes remeniscent of those to have played out upon the 26-year-old tearing his ACL early last season.

Militão, from here, was loaded onto a stretcher, before being carried off the pitch in evident distress, in a flood of tears.

An update on his wellbeing is expected shortly.
