Real Madrid cancel press conference & open training session on eve of Copa del Rey final

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have made the call to cancel all media commitments, ahead of their upcoming showdown with Barcelona.

This comes after Los Blancos saw an appeal to the RFEF regarding the team of officials for tomorrow’s Copa del Rey final rejected.

The matchup will see Spanish football’s two biggest clubs lock horns at La Cartuja, with silverware on the line.

In the buildup to the clash, the subject of refereeing has taken its place front and centre in the headlines, after a string of comments laid out by the team of officials on Friday turned heads.

A teary Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, the referee assigned to the fixture, went as far as to state:

“What we’re going through isn’t fair. It’s heartbreaking when my son goes to school and has to hear stuff like his father is a thief.”

Developments in the press conference culminated in Real Madrid going as far as to contact the RFEF, to ask for a new team of officials to be chosen for the Copa showpiece.

After this appeal was knocked back, however, Los Blancos have since taken even more stern action.

As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, citing Marca:

‘Real Madrid are set to cancel [their] open training, press conference and club dinner today.’
