Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his pre-match discussion with Girona star Miguel Gutiérrez.
Real and Girona of course locked horns in a La Liga clash earlier today.
When all was said and done, it was the title-chasing former who emerged on the right side of the result, owing to goals on the part of Luka Modrić and Vinícius Jr.
As alluded to above, though, ahead of kick-off in the Spanish capital, it was manager Carlo Ancelotti who piqued widespread attentions in Spain.
This came after it was revealed that the Italian tactician had sought out Girona star Miguel Gutiérrez for a pre-match chat in the tunnel.
Gutiérrez for his part spent the early years of his career developing on the books of Real Madrid, with the capital giants in possession of a buyback clause as part of the deal which sent the left-back to Girona.
It therefore quickly set tongues wagging upon word coming to the fore that Ancelotti and Gutiérrez had been involved in a personal chat.
Drawn on the situation post-match, however, Real Madrid’s headmaster was keen to play the subject down:
“Talks with Miguel? I just went to say ‘Hello’ to Miguel Gutiérrez and then I said good luck not for today but for all the other matches!”
