The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have positioned themselves in the running for the signature of a long-time transfer target on the part of arch rivals Barcelona.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Jonathan Tah as the player in question.
The name of defender Tah has of course long proven a leading one in the headlines across the Spanish media.
This comes after a number of outlets went as far as to assure that the German international, ahead of the expiration of his Bayer Leverkusen contract in the summer, had reached an agreement with the Camp Nou board over the terms of a pre-contract.
And yet, months on from such claims first surfacing, little has been forthcoming in terms of updates.
Barca, it is understood, have momentarily pumped the brakes on a deal for Tah, owing to both the club’s player registration issues, and reconsideration when it comes to the need for defensive reinforcements.
As much has opened the door for rival suitors to reenter the fray, chief among them Bayern Munich.
But as per the aforementioned AS, also in the running to secure Tah’s services for next season are Real Madrid, whom Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is expected to join this summer:
‘With the very likely arrival of Xabi Alonso to the Real Madrid dugout on the horizon, Tah has entered the list of possible reinforcements in the Santiago Bernabéu offices. His name has the approval of the manager.’
