Real Madrid & Barcelona ready to go to ‘war’ over signing in 2025

Spanish football’s two biggest clubs are ready to lock horns on the transfer market in the summer of 2025.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Florian Wirtz as the player set to be at the heart of a tug-of-war between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Both clubs have set their sights firmly on midfielder Wirtz as their priority signing with a view to the 2025/26 campaign.

As much comes with the German international fresh off a remarkable campaign, which saw him rack up 18 goals and 20 assists across all competitions, en route to Bayer Leverkusen’s historic domestic double.

Considered one of world football’s next stars in the making, Barcelona sporting director Deco is already understood to be putting in work to free up the necessary funds to table a big-money offer for Wirtz in 12 months’ time.

The Blaugrana’s pursuit, meanwhile, could well be aided by the 21-year-old’s affinity for the club, one which he has made clear publicly on a number of occasions in the past.

Real Madrid, though, are equally as keen.

Wirtz has been earmarked as the next priority addition to Los Blancos’ crop of explosive up-and-coming talent, with some outlets in Spain having gone as far as to claim that an agreement is already in place for the German to link up with Carlo Ancelotti’s troops.

Los Blancos, for obvious reasons, also boast the edge over Barcelona when it comes to finances.

A ‘war’, in turn, is brewing on the two sides of the Clásico divide, albeit, on this occasion, in the boardroom rather than on the pitch…
