The board at La Liga giants Real Madrid have kicked into gear efforts towards a third high-profile signing of the summer.
That’s according to Relevo, who point towards Álvaro Carreras as the latest player ‘marked in red’ by Florentino Pérez and co.
It is of course common knowledge at this point that Real Madrid are on the lookout for reinforcements at left-back with a view to next season.
Amid the ongoing injury struggles of both Ferland Mendy and David Alaba, Los Blancos have identified the position as being in immediate need of reinforcement.
A shortlist of targets, in turn, was recently drawn up by the transfer team in Spain’s capital.
And one name has now emerged as the clear favourite – Álvaro Carreras.
As per a report from Relevo:
‘The left-back casting process has dominated the last few matchdays at Valdebebas, and Carreras appears to be the chosen one.’
With the Spanish heavyweights now actively working towards finding a deal with their Benfica counterparts, Blancos insider Javier Rodríguez Pascual, in turn, has gone as far as to state:
‘Barring a last-minute turnaround, Carreras will play for Real Madrid.’
Should a deal for the talented left-back ultimately be sewn up, Carreras will follow both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer.
