Real Betis set for €8 million Abner funds boost

La Liga outfit Real Betis have reached an agreement to part ways with defender Abner with a view to next season.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Abner, for his part, linked up with Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis in January of 2023, from Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense.

Brought in as a replacement for the outbound Àlex Moreno, the 23-year-old, however, has for the most part failed to live up to the expectations surrounding his signing.

All told, across the season to date, Abner has featured from the off in just shy of half of Betis’ La Liga outings, with his contributions at both ends having often left a lot to be desired.

On Monday, it should therefore not come as all that much of a surprise to hear of the Brazilian preparing for a new adventure.

His upcoming landing spot? Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais.

As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano, Lyon have reached an agreement with their counterparts in Heliópolis to sign Abner with a view to the 2024/25 campaign.

The transfer is expected to set Lyon back a fee in the region of €8 million, funds which will no doubt be made use of to source a replacement left-back by the powers that be at Real Betis.

As much comes with Juan Miranda, too, in line to bid farewell to the Verdiblancos this summer.
