Real Betis make club history in the World Cup

Real Betis have the largest representation at the World Cup in the club’s history, note Marca.

Over the last week the coaches of the national teams going to the biggest international tournament in football released the names of the players that they are calling up to go to Qatar.

Real Betis have had 5 players called up to their respective country’s squads, namely Youssouf Sabaly (Senegal), William Carvalho (Portugal), Andrés Guardado (Mexico), Guido Rodríguez (Argentina) and Germán Pezzella (Argentina).

Previously there has never been a case that five Los Verdiblancos players made the trip to the World Cup.

It is worth noting that this will be Guardado’s fifth World Cup appearance, having played in Germany, South Africa, Brazil and Russia previously.

The relatively high number of Real Betis players going to the tournament is most likely down to their great start to the season. Manuel Pellegrini’s men are level with Athletic Club for the Champions League places in La Liga and topped their Europa League group.
