Real Betis get complicated Ayoze Pérez deal over the line

One of La Liga’s most played-out transfers finally came to an end on Tuesday night as Ayoze Pérez’s was registered in La Liga’s official records.

Real Betis have announced the loan deal for Pérez, who joins from Leicester City until the end of the season.

While the deal was initially limited by Betis’ wage cap, the offloading of Loren Morón to UD Las Palmas and Diego Lainez to Tigres UANL, both on loan, opened up a spot for Pérez.

However, in the time it took to finalise the necessary departures, Villarreal swooped in and caught the Canarian’s attention. The two parties came very close to an agreement, but at the last moment, the Yellow Submarine stepped away from negotiations.

Even with a portion of the wage budget freed up for Pérez’s signing on the final day of the transfer window, the economical requirements of the deal were still too high for its completion.

With time on the clock rapidly ticking away, both Leicester and Pérez generously agreed to lower their financial requirements in order to make the deal possible, and so shortly before the registration deadline, Betis officially managed to finalise the transfer and boost their squad for the remainder of the campaign.
