La Liga outfit Real Betis have on Thursday announced an injury blow in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.
This comes amid confirmation that summer signing Giovani Lo Celso is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Midfielder Lo Celso, for his part, spent the last week on international duty, with Lionel Scaloni’s all-conquering Argentina squad.
After featuring from the off in the Albiceleste’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela, however, the former Tottenham Hotspur man was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday, against Bolivia.
And as much, it has since been revealed, came owing to an injury.
Lo Celso returned to base in Seville earlier today, before being swiftly put through a round of medical scans and tests.
And, as per a statement across Real Betis’ website and social media platforms, these tests gave rise to confirmation that the 28-year-old has suffered a thigh injury:
‘After his return to the Argentine national team, Giovani Lo Celso has suffered an injury to the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh. The physical problems that the player has presented in the last training session with his national team have been assessed by the Club’s medical services today, carrying out additional tests that confirm a moderate myotendinous injury to the rectus femoris of his right thigh.
‘The timing of his return to the team will depend on his progress.’
