Real & Atlético stars had to be separated in the tunnel during Madrid Derby

Leading members of the first-team ranks at Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid required separating behind the scenes during today’s fiesty derby clash.

That’s according to COPE, who highlight Antonio Rüdiger and Morten Hjulmand as the pair in question.

The season’s first edition of the Madrid Derby was of course played to completion on Sunday evening. When all was said and done in a hotly contested affair, it was hosts Atlético who emerged victorious, by two goals to one.

The game featured a number of flashpoints, with Dean Huijsen having been shown a straight red card, and the likes of Cristian Romero and Lee Kang-in having toed the disciplinary line.

As alluded to above, though, tensions between the two sets of players were not restricted solely to the field of play. As per a report from COPE:

‘Hjulmand and Rüdiger had a run-in entering the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms. Security personnel had to intervene.’
